This high-contrast painting sets various species of plant life against the dark backdrop of nighttime. My love for the dynamic contrasts of life play out visually in the meeting of the deep, cool black of the nighttime setting and the vibrancy of the thriving plants in the foreground.
I adore the simplistic truth that while plants need water, soil, and sun to sustain life, they also continue to thrive every night when the sunlight is absent from their leaves and they are engulfed in darkness. Instead of shriveling up and dying the moment darkness falls, they continue to grow.
This painting amplifies this further by showcasing a minuscule species of forest flower as the centerpiece of the artwork. Even the tiniest flower that resides on the forest floor is rich in beauty and durability…in full sun and in darkest night.
