Delving further into my wonder and adoration for the concept of contrast,  this piece further explores the idea of development and even magnificence among darkness (or things we deem to be “dark”).

Often times, we picture plants and flowers basking brightly in the golden sun, offering almost no visual contrast at all. It’s all bright. It’s all sunny and light. But here, a thriving, bursting, blooming entanglement of plant life emerges from an almost colorless, dark background. We are faced with the reminder that not only does life merely carry on while in the darkness, but it can continue to thrive and develop and deepen in its richness.

This painting serves as a reminder that just as plants do not shrivel up and die when night falls, life can maintain, even increase in beauty when faced with uncertainty or difference or darkness. Maybe the darkness, itself, isn’t something to be feared after all. Maybe it’s actually something to marvel in. After all, sometimes the darkness can showcase the beauty of something more than light ever could. It’s all about the contrast.
