Straying away from my momentary interest in soft, pastel palettes, I knew this painting was asking for more of the rich contrast I love so much. Abba grabbed my hand and took me on a journey with this painting as he reminded me to not merely accept the part of my heart that loves the bittersweetness of life and humanity (sitting in the deep sorrows and complexities that help us grow, while also embracing the joy and lightness), but to LOVE that contrasting part of myself more fully.

When reflecting on my present moment and also praying over the couple and dear friends that commissioned this painting, I was reminded again that the richness and depth that contrast brings to the human experience (and this artwork) is not only necessary, but so deeply beautiful. 

Soft suggestions of magnolia flowers and bright bunches of hops illustrate the mingling of this couple’s precious past memories and sweet present moments as they continually grow towards each other and Jesus. 

This painting was one of gratitude and awe for my dear friends and their ever-growing marriage, for the inspiration they are to me in my relationship with my husband and with Jesus, and for the richness of life’s beautiful contrast.
