acrylic on canvas

2021
This joyful explosion of color was created during the beginning months of the covid-19 pandemic. I’m sure like many creatives during this time of physical and emotional turmoil, inspiration and motivation was in short supply for me for a while. At times, it still is.
This piece was made in May of 2020 out of the necessity to simply put brush to canvas, again - to feel like an artist, again - to feel like a human, again.
Perhaps these color choices were so outrageously vibrant to subconsciously compensate for the emptiness and misty gray of my spirit at the time. I remember looking at the piece when I finished and wondering, “how did THAT happen?”
Regarding the world as joyful or hopeful or beautiful then felt impossible…and the challenge still exists from day to day. But, there in my little bubble of paint and color, I found a glimpse of it, again. It seems our souls still know what to do. Sometimes it just needs to be uncovered.
