The slightly more playful counterpart of Through the Trees, this painting wakes up the fearless child in me who asks whimsical questions, like,

“what does green smell like?”

This piece helps me work through my belief that a childlike ability to question and a brave willingness to hike into uncharted emotional territory brings healing, infinite dimension, and richness to life. I think we can trade some of our restless questions for peace, but only if we find the time and honesty to ask them…of ourselves, of God, of people around us. Keeping our doubts and questions hidden beneath shame or fear only suppresses our wondrous curiosity, along with any hope to grow our emotional, spiritual, or relational intelligence.

A recent experience of mine has been watching some beliefs I relied upon heavily utterly blow up in my face, finally granting me the room and rawness to ask hard questions I had kept hidden for so long. My eyes are open wider, my heart is opening to new wisdom and graciousness, and I’m having an awful lot of fun playing in the mystery of questions like, “what does green smell like?”
