Set against a busy backdrop of vibrant blue skies, blossoming plants and petals, complex brushstrokes, and whimsical lines, this dark-eyed junco sparrow soars in majestic simplicity.

Innocence in its most transparent form, this sparrow relays a sense of ease and solace to me. A bird’s very existence is one of both simplicity and grandeur as they are commonplace to us; a natural part of the background noise of our daily lives. But actually stopping to listen to the quick bright calls and the long, carefree songs can altar my spirits from a place of cynicism to simple joy in a matter of seconds in a world that sometimes feels full of pain and complexity.

Maybe the moment it takes to watch a gentle, winged creature defy gravity and effortlessly sail across the sky is enough to be lifted out of the overactive funk we sometimes find our minds and souls in.
